We have considerable experience importing green coffee beans into New Zealand.

We understand the challenges faced by the growing number of roasters across the country and have tailored both our range and our service to provide them with the value they need – good coffee, consistently and safely delivered, at a realistic price.

The best coffee comes from Under-Developed countries, where life is very different; infrastructure is basic, there is often political instability, weather systems are more extreme, the business code of ethics is too often inextricably linked to basic survival, and there are myriad cultural idiosyncrasies at play. Obtaining agricultural crops from these counties comes with a unique set of challenges, which, over many years of business, we have acquired the knowledge to navigate our way through.

Our Service

Our business is dedicated to bringing good coffee safely to New Zealand, and we are proud of the service we offer.

Our buying philosophy is a long-term one rather than a more cost-driven ‘just in time’ policy.
Coffee supply is extremely unpredictable, with many potential hazards that can impact on its delivery, whether it’s adverse weather conditions destroying a crop, an accident on the journey, or a contaminant that impacts the quality. We choose to carry enough stock to counteract these risks so that we never run out.

All our coffees are consistently available all year round.
As the global supply of coffee goes up and down, so does the price.
However, our long-term buying strategy means that we are less at the mercy of the fluctuations.

We carry enough stock to give us time to choose our day, and we are rarely forced to buy when the market is high or the exchange rate is against us. There are many factors which determine when coffee is at a ‘good price’, and our customers benefit from our experience in judging when that time is.
Over the years we have developed strong and trusting relationships with all the businesses we buy from at origin.
They understand the level of quality that we demand and are committed to providing it for us.

All our coffees are carefully tasted and selected based on cup profile and their appeal to the New Zealand market.
Coffee has to travel a very long way, often from extremely remote and dangerous locations.
Working with our partners at origin we have an established and reliable logistics network, which means that our coffee travels safely and arrives in great condition.
The journey from tree to cup is a long one, which ties up capital.
We understand that small roasters have higher commitments for their capital, so carry the cost of the coffee from pre-shipment all the way until it has been delivered and used by our customers.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the heart of our business model.

Our strong belief is that there is a fair price for a cup of coffee which leaves enough for everyone involved in the journey it makes from the tree to the cup; when this balance is achieved, the continuous circle of demand and supply is sustained.

Our commitment to provide value – good coffee at reasonable prices - to our roasters means that they don’t fall into the trap of following a cheap product model and their customers return. As a result, their business is sustainable, the demand for coffee from our producers continues, and wages for workers are maintained.

In the country of origin we commit to working with one partner only, who sources coffees from a selection of the best local producers. We do not enter into a tender process as we believe this drives down the quality of the coffee and puts the fair return to the farmer and the workers at risk. We only import coffee in 100% organic packaging.

Our Coffee

For centuries, coffee has been entwined in everyday life.

It’s a living, breathing organism, which, if treated well, has the capacity to add real moments of pleasure to the day. For this reason, we allow ourselves the luxury of only trading in coffees that we love and that we really believe in, from people that we trust.

We source from a variety of origins around the world that are renowned for their quality, and we intimately understand the nuances and characteristics of each different coffee. We use that knowledge to ensure we buy at the right time, when the season is yielding the best quality.

Our care and respect for the beans continues until it reaches the roaster. Each shipment is carefully tasted and audited for quality, and we only ship coffees in 100% organic sacks.

We’d love to help you choose the right coffee, so please get in touch for a current stock list and samples.
